Fira, Santorini Sites and Attractions, Greece
While in Fira, we suggest you visit the Archaeological Museum, which contains findings from the Geometric Period, the Folklore Museums, which displays historical objects of everyday Santorinian life and the Prehistoric Museum, which includes relics from Prehistoric Thira.
You should also pay a visit to the town’s two cathedrals (one orthodox – one catholic) and the Venetian Castle Gizi or just take a relaxing stroll through the quaint narrow alleyways.
Don’t forget to see the Minoan City in Akrotiri, the ancient ruins of the City of Thira and the relics of the ancient cemetery in Phinikia.
Santorini Beaches , Greece
For endless hours of swimming and sunbathing we suggest you go to the unique black beaches of Kamari, Monolithos Perissa and Perivolos and the Red and White Beaches in Akrotiri.
If you wish to take a short trip to the volcanic isles: Thirassia, Nea Kammeni and Palea Kammeni, you can catch a boat from Fira. Departures are frequent, especially during the high season. Lastly, purchase a good map of Santorini that shows some of the hidden Santorini beaches, where you are provided some peace and tranquility.
Santorini Cuisine and Festivities
During the summer months Fira is host to several festivals such as Profiti Elia Festival (July 20th), the Efaistia, which is a three day celebration in August and the International Music Festival in September, all of which provide many activities such as dancing, art and dance exhibitions and dining etc.
One main attraction of Santorini is its local food. In Fira there is an abundance of ouzeries and small taverns that serve tasty local dishes such fresh seafood, fava (lentil dip), tomato balls and fried white eggplants that are complimented by the renowned Santorinian wine. At night you have a wide selection of clubs, bars and cafés to choose from that are open till sunup.
